Acupuncture is safe throughout pregnancy, but we generally only treat during the first trimester, in order to help secure the pregnancy and smooth the transition in to motherhood. When there is persistent nausea and vomiting, reflux, pain or other issues we continue treatment. Labor support starts at 36/37 weeks: we use acupuncture to manage stress and help calm and clear the mind, ensure the baby is positioned optimally, ripen the cervix and relax the tissues. After labor we are still here for you: muscle aches, postpartum depression, anxiety and lactation support are some of the common reasons why people continue care.

We’re always happy to treat children! Needles are even thinner than usual and are not left in as long. Whether needles are even used is up to you and your child. Often we skip them entirely and stimulate points with moxa, essential oils and / or acupressure. We talk through issues, give dietary and lifestyle recommendations, lifestyle suggestions and employ herbal formulas that are safe and effective.

All of the considerations of pediatric care still apply, and for those entering the teen years we often see more cases involving hormonal shifts, social discomfort, anxiety and nervousness, ennui and apathy, dermatological issues and difficulty focusing.

Here is what you can expect after a visit to Golden Hour Acupuncture: Many patients experience a sense of deep relaxation, immediate pain relief, and a quality of centered well-being immediately after a treatment. In the following days, the body continues to heal. You may notice increased energy, better digestion, improved mood, mental clarity and more range of motion. When a condition is chronic, it takes the body longer to come back into balance, but over time, it does indeed find its way back to health.

Make sure and eat something beforehand. It’s best not to receive acupuncture on a totally empty stomach. Wear comfortable clothes. Come as you are. You are an amazing person. You’ve made a choice to invest in your health. That is something to be proud of!

After completing paperwork, we will have a thorough conversation about your health, your goals for treatment, and any concerns you have. We’ll develop a treatment plan together. After that, you’ll receive a full treatment. This may include acupuncture, herbal consultation and accessory techniques.

First treatments usually take about 75 minutes. Follow-up treatments are between 45 and 60 minutes long.

A typical course of treatment is usually about 10 treatments, but varies depending on how long you’ve had the condition, and how much we collaborate on the healing process. Results vary by individual and specific condition.

Acupuncture needles are as thin as a hair, and most patients report feeling a dull, heavy sensation once the needles are inserted. Julie is known for her gentle technique, and many patients remark, “I didn’t feel a thing!”

Yes! We are In-Network with Blue Cross Blue Shield. We can also provide you with a detailed receipt called a SuperBill to submit to your insurance company. Payment is due in full at the time of service. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards.
